gabba gabba hey..... Friday, 16 January 11:39 pm
i talked to my mom on the phone this morning. it was a really nice conversation. it made me really feel like going home. i know martijn and i plan to go visit in december but it seems so far off. things that are stopping me are a list a mile long tho.
for starters i need to find a job. and when i get a job will they let me go on a vacation not so long after i get hired?
oh i forgot to mention that i would really like to go back home the first week of may because the coachella festival is that weekend and the pixies and radiohead have been confirmed. so i kinda have a double agenda but still. wouldnt it be great?
another thing that im concerned about is my dutch classes which start next month which are mandatory and im expected to attend 5 days a week. if i ever wanna be a dutch citizen then i have to be present for at least 75% of the classes. so that on top of the other things causes me to be a bit reluctant to pursue this idea.
i also have no money right now and would have to depend on the kindness of my family.

but yeah. i was sick the last two days but today i feel great. i had lots of energy and cleaned our house from top to bottom, did laundry, had tea with nicoline, watched cash in th attic, made a cd for renee and cooked a great dinner.

its sucha blustery night outside. it was a blustery day too but i must say that it felt really great to step outside today and feel the fresh air press againt my face. i was cooped up like the chickens that live across the way from us for the last two days.

well, i think i'll leave it at that for now.
there goes the first weblog entry..how special.

Martijn is now posting Saturday, 17 January 10:11 pm
This would be my first real post. all posts that have come before this were merely to test out layouts of this log and such.
We are currently working on our new website. mostly me doing nerd things and lissette watching me waiting till i'm off the computer. the web log layout is done now, wich is good cos it wasn't that fun working on it.
i figure once the pages are up this is still where most of the action is though, so the work was worthwhile. a special thanks goes out to my good friend siemon who is hosting all this for me. i'm proud of what you achieved buddy =). (and glad to harvest from it too!).
i hope you guys out there will find your way to this log, despite of the fact that everyone and their mom seems to be webloggin' these days, and we aren't famous or anything.

back to working on this rotten site

Utrecht Sunday, 25 January 1:59 pm
This weekend we planned a night out in the town of Utrecht with a gal named pingu. Me and Lissette are both very fond of Utrecht, since it is much cleaner and quieter, and, I gotta admit, even prettier than Amsterdam. The only problem with it is that it is a little small, and 25% of the population seems to be homeless.
The day started out good, drinks and lunch at the smokey cafe belgium, bit of wandering around, obligatory coffeeshop visit, and more wandering around.
Then I got harrased by a bunch of marocan kids who wanted me to buy weed for them. When I said I wasn't going to, the youngest (about 12 I geuss) started to be a bit aggressive, but his older friends (14?) sorta dragged him away from me, apperantly not in the mood to start trouble.
Lissette said she thought she was gonna have to kick the kids ass for me, and I felt glad to know that I have a girlfriend who can defend me when the need arises. I'm such a wuss.

Then we met up with a delegation of Biton to eat pancakes and sort of wait till the doors of their hide-out would open.
And then my camera, manufactured by the same supplier of imaging solutions that employs me, broke. After four weeks. Go figure. Anyway, Biton was fun, and Lissette and P finally understood how biton could be a fraternity without being dumb. Lissette now calls biton a 'student club'. hehehe.

Winter Monday, 26 January 12:14 pm
This morning on my way to work my bike suddenly slipped and I fell flat on the road. I wasn't going that fast, didn't brake or make a corner. It just slipped suddenly.
I was already a bit late because I had a hard time saying bye to Sam and Lissette, who were both peacefully sleeping next to me.

I suppose that's what you get when you complain that this years winter isn't worth much...

I'm not rock & roll. Tuesday, 27 January 3:32 pm
How come no one warned me about this? I found out 3 days in advance actually, but of corse it was already sold out. now that i've seen the pictures i'm a little sad though.
I got siemon to go to one of the last shows of de dijk (before another ouwelullevakantie) last year, so it was his turn to notify me about this show... toch?

Logging for the cats' violin Wednesday, 28 January 2:02 pm
When I had just finished sorting out the lay out of this weblog (just read a post on controllerboy that I could relate too) I told lissette that I was probably never really going to use this. Why? Because my life is naught but nine to five blues.
So what do you know? I find posting here to be extremely addictive. And those two people (respect) that have paid a visit this week can see that I do have an exciting life full of adventures... right?

right???

acquired: het beste van gorki live & gewoon maar wat op weg (de poema's) Friday, 30 January 12:23 pm
Lissette went out yesterday and bought these for me. She bought herself a dandy warhols cd (weak) and the pixies (decent). I had asked her to get me the gorki cd, and she bought me de poema's single as a bonus.

The gorki cd is a bit of a weird affair. I especially wanted it for the dvd that 'comes with it'. I put that between quotes because I think releasing an hour long cd with bonus dvd that contains everything on the cd plus 3 hours of other material, is a typical case of belgian logic.

So do we like it? Yes we do, to a certain extent. The main thing this release revolves around is a theatershow the guys did after the release of 'vooruitgang'. While most songs do come out nice, I would rather have seen something more rock & roll. The worst gripe though, is that they thought it'd be cool to have special 'guests' play 'along' on a big tv screen. LAME!
Legendary song Mia is almost entirely sung by a pre-recorded flip kowliers, who, by the way, completely fucks the whole thing up (sorry flip). It is just a bit of a shame that watching this theater thing gives you at least 5 good toe crinching momemts.
Ironicly, the +/- 5 songs that are performed on the wonderful lola da musica documentary (on the dvd in it's entirety) are the best performances found on the disc.

Then there's about 5 music videos and 4 tv performances, 3 of wich are play backed staatsloterij-esque things.

In the end, this is a mega package that has a lot of great gorki material on it. I haven't even had the time to listen to the poema's...

Still, the only gorki release that I consider to be a true feast from begin to end is the best of (not live) cd released in 99. I invite you all to give it a listen at your favorite record store. The older (impossible to find) gorki material is just really amazing.
It has been said by many before, but it is a real shame that this band never got foot on the ground in the netherlands.

May I suggest we all call our favorite radio station and request such ubersongs as Mia, Ooit was ik een soldaat, Lang zullen ze leven, Monstertje, Lieve kleine piranha, etc..
There's no way anyone can hear those without going 'what's this?'
World domination, garanteed!
